Welcome to The Half Moon

The Half Moon is a lovely Country Pub, with friendly service and delicious fresh food. Since May 2006 it has been run by Andrew Hill and Eilidh(pronounced Ayley) Ferguson. Andrew is the Chef and everything is homemade. From the crisps and pork scratchings on the bar to the sausages and the marinated salmon; everything that can be is freshly made in the kitchen.

Andrew has been sourcing more and more produce locally and direct from the farms where possible. (See ‘Our Suppliers’ for more information.) All the fish, pork and mutton arrive whole and are prepared in-house. As well as ensuring peak freshness for prime cuts, this also allows the production of many interesting traditional dishes like home made brawn, duck hearts on toast and our delicious "3 way lamb" in season.

During the winter months, you will find local partridge, wild Manor Farm duck, pheasant and venison. If you are lucky enough to visit when home-smoked salmon is on the menu - it is a must try- you'll never want another pack from the supermarket again! Andrew also cold smokes Cuxham pigeon, local venison and homemade pheasant sausages.

Eilidh grows a proportion of the vegetables, herbs and salad leaves for the kitchen meaning fresh and wherever possible unique produce and the ultimate in traceability. The kitchen garden is also home to seven geese which are being reared for Christmas Day and two Gloucester Old Spot pigs which can use up the kitchen scraps meaning very well fed pigs and a lower carbon footprint. If you wander past the patio and through the large beer garden you will see the extensive kitchen garden and you are also likely to meet our 17 chickens including 10 that we recently rescued from a battery farm and these supply the pub with fresh free-range eggs.

The atmosphere is informal, friendly and welcoming. Eilidh, Emma and the team aim to give great service and are always willing to explain anything on the menu in great detail. With its thatched roof, original red and black floor tiles and low beams, The Half Moon dates back to the 17th Century and is a perfect example of the very best that traditional English pubs can offer.

Drinkers are always welcome for a quick pint of well-kept Brakspears with some mature cheddar and a pickled egg, but The Half Moon comes into its own when you sample its twice daily changing menu of fresh, delicious food. For special occasions, The Half Moon can cater for larger parties with dishes like our signature "suckling pig banquet "or it can create a special menu of your favourite dishes. You can even bring the Half Moon to your home with the convenient outside catering service.

A warm welcome awaits you. Andrew and Eilidh
